DESCRIPTION: EPW - William Webb, London, Canadian Government presentation watch for rescue at sea, lever fusee, 53mm, silver original HC bearing London hallmarks for 1873, incuse "P:W" for casemaker Phillip Woodman & Sons, cuvette engraved "Presented by the Government of Canada to Mr. Thomas Fleming Seaman of the Brigantine 'Countess' of Halifax Nova-Scotia in recognition of his humane and gallant exertions in the rescue of the Crew of the Schooner 'Sappho' of St. John New Brunswick 24th. August 1872," case front with initials, white enamel SS dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), fully capped lever escapement, 17J, gilt mvt, gilt locking dust-cap, s#8262 with matching serial number to dial. An interesting piece presented by the Canadian government for heroism at sea. CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance will tick if reverse pressure is added at fusee, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered short scratches and fine scratches, some scattered haze spots, barrel bridge is missing a screw; dial with scattered hls, small chip to left rim of seconds-register; fine hands; case shows ample wear, an attractive patina, scattered scratches, fine scratches and nicks, no dents, engine turning detail largely fully lost with only central portions remaining evident, front lift spring not contacting lid to fully opened range allowing lid to tilt back halfway toward closed with gravity; tight nickel replacement bow, push shows ample wear; good glass crystal.
